Friends of Bachman Lake Newsletter - April 2023
“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself,"” ― Henry Ford
Think of #GiveMeGreen as 'give green, get greener!'
April is #EarthMonth and you can help make #BachmanLakePark the recreational jewel the community deserves! Please donate what you're able to move our trail and cleaning projects forward. You've made it this far with us, let's continue the journey! Please use the following link to contribute. We still have a lot to look forward to! https://givebutter.com/vM6xe3
Thank you as always!
Dredging is done and Bachman Lake looks GRRREAT!
"Bachman Island" is gone and the rowers are loving the extra space in the water. We have also heard that neighbors upstream have not been as affected by flood waters during heavy rains! This is all because of the extra capacity at the lake now that all the silt has been removed.
Dallas Water Utilities and its project partners have removed over 150,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment. That’s enough to fill more than 325 Southwest planes flying out of nearby Love Field! Beyond the sediment, nearly 3,000 tons of large debris have also been removed, including an SUV last July.
A Bike Plan you helped make happen
In the latest cycling plan, the Bachman Area has some of the top projects to help cycling and pedestrian safety! We are VERY excited that key area needs will be addressed, as for over a year, we have worked to bring community advocates forward, have held in-person meetings with the City, attended feedback sessions and engaged the Bicycle Advisory Committee. Letters, blog posts, data analysis (Vision Zero, Traffic Accidents), and proposed maps were also used to make the case. To see the list of projects and for links to the actual files, please see our blog post!
The first helping hands at Bachman
There's so much to our history. As we celebrate the 120th year of our beloved park, get to know the past a little better! https://bit.ly/3YOkuNs
